In Vancouver, from January to March I get a craving for sunshine and warmth something only a sunny destination can satisfy. I went to Maui for a dose of sunshine and a hit of adventure. As soon as I arrived I smelled Maui’s sweet, nourishing air and was in bliss driving with the windows down all the way to my home for the next 10 days in Haiku. Haiku is the spiritual hub of Maui where the ex-pats fuse with the locals in the jungle surroundings.
Maui is an island that offers so much variety in regards to Wellness. The island fosters a feminine energy that allows for healing and rejuvenation of all sorts. The island also offers many opportunities to be active through cycling, hiking, paddle boarding, scuba diving and snorkeling. It is a nice break from a city to come to this tropical paradise and become one with nature.
There are two dedicated Wellness Hotels on the Island. First, there is Lumeria. Lumeria is located in the highlands in the conscious community of Makawow. It hosts events and retreats open to both the community and guests. The second Wellness hotel is Travaasa in Hana. Many people have heard about the road to Hana and how dangerous it is. But if you drive slowly and mindfully you really can take in all the beauty along the highway. My favourite part is the Rainbow Ecualyptus tree forest, located right across from the Bamboo forest. After your approximately 3 hour drive you will arrive at your destinantion. Travaasa is an experiential resort that offers activities such as off property hikes, snorkelling, yoga, meditation and a full service spa.
Two of my favourite beach towns in Maui includes Wailea and Kapalua. Wailea is a beachfront town where two of Renshaw Travel’s Virtuoso hotels are located, The Fairmont Kea Lani and The Four Season Wailea. These properties are located just down the beach from each other on separate beaches. Find your mana (energy) and achieve kaulike (internal balance) at The Fairmont Kea Lani, new Willow Stream Spa. Or enjoy intuitive service at The Four Seasons Wailea, truly one of the state’s top luxury hotels. Kapalua is my favourite beach destination on the island as it is host to two of the best beaches for snorkelling: Napili Bay and Kapalua Bay. Kapalua offers the Virtuoso Hotel, The Ritz Carlton and Napili offers the Napili Kai, a low rise property with both beachfront and oceanfront accommodations.
